Haven't had any problems with Insert after that so at least it got it working with D7 again. the underlying problem that "file_directory_path()" doesn't exist needs to be remedied. I guess I need to dig a bit further. Is the developer going to release a fix anytime soon? Maybe I will test also imagepicker and dragndrop_uploads again...
